Govt wants to widen sports in Maldives by holding many international tournaments- Adheeb
Tourism Minister Ahmed Adheeb has said that the government wants to widen and develop sports in Maldives by holding many international tournaments.

Adheeb made this remark at the function held at Villa Group’s famous Sun Island Resort to mark the conclusion of the 4th Carrom World Cup 2014. He participated in the event as a special representative of President Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

He said that the government gives a special importance to build the youth of Maldives and to build their moral character through sports.

Adheeb said that the President wanted to participate in the event however due to the state visit of the Chinese President the President was unable to participate in the event.

The International Carrom Federation introduced Carrom World Cup in 2002 and the first World Cup was hosted in Luton (England). It was then also decided that the Carrom World Cup will be organized in between Carrom World Championships which is held every four years. The second tournament was organized in 2006 at Cannnes (France) and the third in 2010 at Richmond Virginia (USA). Carrom World Cup is one of the most prestigious events of Carrom organized after every four years.

For 2014, the International Carrom Federation has allotted the Carrom Association of Maldives the honored privilege of organizing and hosting the 4th Carrom World Cup to in the Maldives.

Adheeb said that the government has been very successful so far in the projects conducted with the cooperation of the Villa Group founder, Gasim Ibrahim. He said that the recent visit of the Chinese President was also made a successful event with the assistance of Gasim Ibrahim.
