The construction of the Islamic Centre in Gaaf Dhaal Thinadhoo has been handed over to Maldives Road Development Corporation (MRDC) for the cost of MVR 34,489,780.15.
This is the first Islamic Center to be developed in the country outside of Male’. The Center will have a hall with the capacity of 500 people, four classrooms with the capacity of 30 people each, an Islamic Library, an office, ablution areas and a prayer hall of 1,000 people.
The Center is being built by a grant of Saudi King Salman bin Abdul Aziz and from the state budget.
Speaking in the signing ceremony, Islamic Minister Dr. Ahmed Ziyad Baqir said that as this was the first Islamic Center being built outside of Male’, this was a vital project.
The entire project is expected to be finished within 170 days.
Thinadhoo South MP Saudhullah Hilmy thanked former Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed and current Islamic Minister Dr. Ahmed Ziyad Baqir for their initiative in the project.
