President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom has stated that action will be taken against those who had attempted to procure a fraudulent court order, calling the incident a gross abuse of the Police.
He made the statement speaking in the ceremony held to open the new port in Kudafari Island.
President Yameen said that action will be taken to protect the reputation, integrity and image of Police Services.
“Action will be taken irrespective of any questions aimed at the Government from international parties. We will respond to those queries later,” he said.
“After investigating the MMPRC matter, Police had not raised any questions over me. In that case how can they issue a court order, instructing to arrest me. Look at the time the Court was opened to issue that said order. It was in the early hours of the morning. I have a screen shot of the order. The order states that this was in connection to a case under investigation. A name was quoted in the order, adding that Police had requested for the arrest. It said to issue a temporary arrest. I will not commit any crime that warrants my arrest,” the President said.
He added that the Police will not arrest anyone unless there was a valid legal reason to do so.
“We are taking about a group of individuals who are not hesitating when it comes to commit such acts,” he said.
President Yameen also said that local media had to investigate such claims before publishing falsified accounts.
“There is no legal reason to question President Yameen. The case had been investigated by Police. ACC, Auditor General had also investigated the case. There is no additional aspect to investigate,” President Yameen said.
President Yameen also criticized former President Mohamed Nasheed for his interference into the matter.
“President Nasheed had called senior officials at MNDF, urging them to arrest the President. He is saying to them why they are not arresting the President. He had admitted to that. MDP also had released a statement attesting to the fact,” he said.
President Yameen MDP had attempted to issue an arrest for the President by the gross misuse and abuse of the Police Department and the judicial justice system.
“Is this the freedom of expression? This type of independence cannot flourish. If this President remains as the leader, then I will take action. It is for the benefit of the whole public. To ensure that faith remained in the relevant institutions. No one will be allowed to carry out such acts,” he added.
President Yameen further said that protests and other such activities can be carried out so long as citizens and property were unharmed.
President Yameen said that the arrestee’s opinion had to be sought out when issuing such a court order.
“However, I had no inclination. I was asleep when that had happened. If it involves me, then I have to be notified of it,” he said.
