President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom has stated that this year’s February 7th, was also one that was filled with imminent danger and betrayal.
He made the statement speaking in the opening ceremony of “Rasfannu” artificial beach on the west side waterfront, noting that the situation was resolved with the mercy of Almighty Allah.
“However, it is still a crime. Planning or working to overthrow a legally elected Government is illegal. The Constitution demands that elections be held and allow the winner to govern,” President Yameen said.
President Yameen further said that Maldivians were not people to make decisions based on street protests. He added that democracy is system that allows free speech and free political thought.
“However, it comes into fruition through a series of means. If the means are breached, then it becomes the responsibility of implementing laws have to act to right the situation, for the sole purpose of protecting the public,” he said.
President Yameen said that with the opening of “Rasfannu”, he hoped that citizens will be able to overcome their mental shock, they had sustained over the years.
