Maldives Police Service (MPS) has confirmed that they had launched an investigation into the arrest warrant for President Yameen allegedly by the Service.
Speaking in a news conference held at Iskandhar Koshi on Sunday, Crime Investigation Command’s Deputy Head Chief Superintendent of Police Mohamed Riyaz confirmed that the Police is investigating the case.
Riyaz said that a group of political activists met with a Magistrate of an island court and acquired an invalid court order at 3 am Sunday, and handed it over to the police in Male’ City.
He added that attempts were made to handover the document to Police and MNDF to wrongly implicate the police of working to arrest the President.
Riyaz added that activists of a political party had gathered near the President’s residence and had attempted to show that the Police and MNDF were arresting the President in connection to a case being investigated by the Police.
He also said that the Former President Mohamed Nasheed, who is currently in UK, had contacted an official of the MNDF and shared details regarding the court order, claiming that the Police were attempting to arrest President Yameen.
Riyaz had not offered additional details of the case, citing that the case was currently under investigation from the Serious and Organized Crime Department.
