STO has begun the operations of the company owned harbor tug “Femunu” and the flattop barge “Fehu Rihi”.
The service was launched in a ceremony held Thursday evening in Hulhumale’ MPL area by STO Chairman Ahmed Niyaz, STO MD Ahmed Shaheer and MPL CEO Ibrahim Shareef.
Speaking in the ceremony, Shaheer said that with the introduction of the tug and barge, the company will not have to rely on other parties and that the work of the company can be expedited. He thanked MPL CEO and Management Team for their assistance in the project.
STO said that with these new tug and barge, the company can expedite the transportation of general cargo from India and transportation of construction materials between Male’ and nearby areas.
The tug boat has the capability to transport bollard pull 800 tons. The vessels was built in Colombo Dockyards in Sri Lanka.
