EU resolution does not meet Maldivian situation: Dunya
Foreign Minister Dunya Maumoon has said that the resolution against Maldives submitted to EU did not meet the Maldivian situation.
Speaking to press in Foreign Ministry, the situation in the Maldives did not warrant such an action, especially given that what had previously happened in larger democracies and EU nations. She said that the current Government did not practice or condone such breaches of human rights.
“There are many suspicions, especially when it comes to human rights, other aspects. However, President Yameen has carried out many projects to strengthen democracy. We have made significant progress in human rights. He is developing further initiatives to progress human rights,” he said.
Minister Dunya said that the Government had worked on communicating the views of the Government to the world and that it had been successful.
She further said that the number of people interested in finding out about the status of the country. Minister Dunya added that many are rejecting the say-so of Mrs. Clooney, preferring to discover the truth by themselves. She said that the findings are now being published in the media in UK, US, India and other such nations. Dunya noted that in spite of this, media reports to the contrary still thrived.
