Chinese New Year marked in Maldives
The 2016 spring festival reception celebrating the Chinese New Year was marked at a function held at Hotel Jen on Tuesday night.

Foreign Minister Dunya Maumoon was the chief guest of the ceremony.

Minister stated that the important solid foundation on which the friendship between China and Maldives has thrived over the last four decades helped the Maldives and China to work on a partnership that has accelerated to unprecedented levels for the last two years. She added that this relationship had extended to an individual level between the citizens of the two countries.

In his address, Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Wang Fukang also remarked on close relationships between the two nations, adding that the relationship was further strengthening every day. He added that last year alone, many high level delegates of the two nations had visited the other country, which was a sign of the close ties.

The Ambassador noted that the China Maldives Friendship Bridge, Ibrahim Nasir International Airport and the 17 km road in Hahdhunmathi started by Chinese Government in the country.

Ambassador Wang further said that Maldives was founding partner member of the Chinese led AIIB bank, a key project of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
