Electricity services has been resumed for the homes of Gaafu Dhaal atoll Thinadhoo Island, after a hiatus of four days, following the fire in the powerhouse.
The power services were re-launched by Defense Minister Adam Shareef Umar.
FENAKA Corporation initially estimated that power will be resumed sometime on Sunday, but the Corporation’s CEO Mohamed Nimal said that the power was restarted by the hard work of the staff of the corporation and other agencies.
Electricity services were started by using two generators from STELCO. Nimal added that a generator ordered by President Abdullah Yameen will arrive on Sunday and will fully resolve the situation.
It has been estimated that the fire had cost MVR 22 million.
Minister Adam Shareef further said that the financial losses were incomparable to the difficulties faced by the citizens of the island.
