Former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb has been transferred to Maafushi Jail from Dhoonidhoo Custodial following an order from the Criminal Court, after the Home Ministry’s decision to keep him in Maafushi Prison for the remainder of his trial.
It has been confirmed to Miadhu that the ex-VP is kept in a secure location in the jail. However, the location is not near the cell of former President Mohamed Nasheed.
The state had raised two cases on Adeeb. He is implicit in many cases of corruption.
Adeeb’s lawyers had filed a request to change him to house arrest for the remainder of his trial, with state lawyers denying the request.
