Ready mix will revolutionize construction industry: MACI
MACI has said that the ready mix, marketed in the Maldives as “Power mix”, will revolutionize the construction sector in the country. The cement was introduced by President Abdulla Yameen, at the "MACI Build and Home Expo" held in Dharubaaruge.

Speaking to press, MACI Chairman, Mohamed Ali Janah said that the biggest boost to the Expo was given by President Yameen launching the power mix.

Janah said that the local construction industry was developing in leaps and bounds.

“Up until recently, we have used traditional stone masonry in construction,” he said.

Janah noted that Maldivians were extremely skilled in stone masonry, citing that many buildings, some of which are 250 years old, had been built using tested techniques.

“Majidhiyya School used such techniques, such a stone masonry and traditional gluing methods. The sector started changing in 1950’s. The Atoll shops built in the 1970s used newer methods,” he said.

Janah added that Maldivian contractors can now construct to 25 storeys, stressing that standards need to be set and followed.

“If we cannot keep construction standards on par with development to the nation, then the sector will go towards international or foreign parties. We can now proudly say the sector is dominated by local partners,” he said.

He further said that the companies were developing rapidly and that MACI expos show the developments that had come to the sector over the years. Janah added that MACI also earned from these expos.

Janah remarked that the organization and STO will conduct an annual safety day.
