Hybrid renewable energy system workshop started
A hybrid renewable energy system workshop has been started in Male’.

The workshop is conducted with the assistance of ADB, with STELCO and FENAKA taking part in the workshop.

Addressing the workshop Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim said that the Government aimed to increase the electricity generated from renewable energy sources and that the Government had made impressive achievements in the initiative.

He said the geographical isolation of the islands and the fact that electricity had to be generated from independent grids, added considerably to the costs of generating electricity. Minister Thoriq also said that the Government was seeking a sustainable solution for the issue.

He added that it was vital that electricity from both renewable and non-renewable sources be integrated together. Minister Thoriq said that he was assured that a solution will be found from the workshop.

Minister Thoriq further said that European Investment Bank, ADB and World Bank were key investors into the local drive to generate clean energy. He added that we have to increase our reliance and investment into clean energy.

“Clean energy initiative is a new thing to the country. The Government will invest in creating human resources for the project. The workshop is part of this initiative,” Minister Thoriq said.
