Judiciary is independent from undue influences- Judge Naeem

Juvenile Court judge and the President of the Judges Organization, Mohamed Naeem has said that the judiciary of the Maldives is now independent from undue influences.

Judge Naeem made this remark speaking at the function held in Nasandhura Palace Hotel last night to mark the anniversary of the Criminal Court. He was the Chief Guest of the event.

He said that the judiciary has faced many reform and changes under the new constitution. He said that today the judiciary is an independent power of state and is free from all undue influences.

Judge Naeem said that he believes that the cases sent for prosecution will not be lagging with the increase in judges, staff and resources.

In addition to this, he said that the judiciary was not as perfect as it is now before the ratification of the current constitution. In this regard, he said that there was a time when some judges wrote their verdicts while with the state attorneys.

Naeem said that the things have changed now and the judiciary has been reformed. He said that the judiciary has seen a new dawn with the new constitution.
