Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizz has said that an area of four hectares of land will be reclaimed from Male’ and will be used resolve the many issues facing the city. Minister Muizz estimated the issues will be resolved within six months.
Answering a question posed by Miadhu in a press conference held in the Ministry today, Dr. Muizz said once the area was reclaimed, it will resemble an island and many projects will be carried out in the island.
Dr. Muizz noted that once completed, the landfill in Male’ will be shifted there. Additionally, three parties will be given space to prepare and supply concrete mix.
“The road blocks caused by the concrete mixing on the road will be resolved due to this. Arrangements will be made to store and supply oil in the island and the oil barges will not be seen in the streets of Male’,” he said.
He added that the workshops using gases will also be transferred to the location.
Dr. Muizz said the finances for the for the project has been earmarked from the Finance Ministry budget and the project can be finished in the set period.
Dr. Muizz added that the project is part of the solutions initiated by President Yameen to reduce the issue of space in the island.
