Japanese Chancellery to open in Maldives
A Chancellery of the Japanese Embassy is to open in the Maldives on the first of January 2016.

The Japanese Ambassador to the Maldives and Sri Lanka said that with the opening of the Chancellery, the bilateral relations between the two nations will improve.

Maldives and Japan commenced diplomatic ties in 1967; 2017 will mark 50 years of Maldives Japan relationship.

Japan is one of the biggest investor into the infrastructural development in Male’ and in the atolls. The country’s aid had built community schools, engines were installed free of charge on Maldivian fishing vessels and the Felivaru fish canning complex were created from Japanese aid.
