A tourism and business promotion office is to be opened in Kunming, Yunnan Province before the middle of this year.
Speaking in the press conference held after the discussions held with the visiting Yunnan delegates, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed said that the most Chinese tourists were from Yunnan.
He added that the one of the key goals of President Yameen during his trip to China, was the establishment of a Maldivian office in Yunnan Province. Minister Saeed said that with the establishment of the office, Maldivian businesses and tourism sector will benefit immensely.
Mohamed Saeed said that discussions were held to designate Maldives as the Country of Honor and Theme Destination in the Expo. He further said that this was the brainchild of President Yameen. Minister Saeed said the Expo will open new opportunities for the country.
He added that Yunnan was a regional leader in renewable energy production and that discussions were held to adapt their technologies to the Maldives.
“Additionally, scholarship opportunities for high performing students were secured. Vocational training opportunities have also been secured,” Minister Saeed said.
