Criminal Asset Confiscation and Financial Investigations Symposium concludes

The Criminal Asset Confiscation and Financial Investigations Symposium has concluded and all participants have been given certificates in a closing ceremony.

The ceremony took place at 1500 hours on the 11th of September in the Multipurpose Hall of the Iskandar Building.

The symposium was conducted by members of the Australian Federal Police and included 35 participants in total, made up of ones from from the Maldives Police

, Anti-Corruption Commission, Auditor General’s Office, Bank of Maldives, Prosecutor General’s Office and the Capital Market Development Authority.

The Chief Guest of the event was the Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority , Azeema Adam.

The Commissioner of Police was also in attendance.

The Chief Guest gave away many of the certificates and the Commissioner gave away commemorative tokens to the members of the AFP.

In her speech, the Governor stated that this was a very opportune time to have such a programme due to anti-money laundering legislation being only a month away from implementation.

She also stated that all institutions, security or otherwise, have to work together to prevent money laundering and funding of terrorism from the Maldives.

She then stressed on the importance of networking with other nations in this globalized world.

The Governor also stated that the MMA is prepared to work closely with all relevant parties to finalize the regulations to make sure they are in place to prevent financial crime and to ensure that the financial sector of our developing nation is stable.

She also said that raising the awareness of the public is key in terms of preventing financial crime and that law enforcement alone cannot do it.

She concluded her speech by stating that she looked forward to working with all institutions present to ensure that the financial sector of the Maldives is secure and stable and by congratulating the participants for completing the programme.
