Maldives had faced its share of natural disasters this year, out of which many were the flooding in Addu City and Fuvahmulah. Maldives faces a host of environmental disasters, greatly exacerbated by the effects of climate change.
In spite of the regularity of such flooding caused by heavy rains, the basic water draining pumps are in short supply.
Maldivians are generally supportive and active in times of such crisis, each lending whatever support that can be rendered, free of charge.
National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) has stated that the agency was working to establish units of the Center in all inhabited islands, in the existing Council secretariats and offices.
With the establishment of such units, all islands will able to respond to disasters both natural and ones caused by human error.
