Carrom World Cup 2014 kick started colourfully

Carrom World Cup 2014 has kick started with a colourful event at the “Maaniya Restaurant” of Sun Island Resort owned by Villa Group.

The International Carrom Federation introduced Carrom World Cup in 2002 and the first World Cup was hosted in Luton (England). It was then also decided that the Carrom World Cup will be organized in between Carrom World Championships which is held every four years. The second tournament was organized in 2006 at Cannnes (France) and the third in 2010 at Richmond Virginia (USA). Carrom World Cup is one of the most prestigious events of Carrom organized after every four years.

For 2014, the International Carrom Federation has allotted the Carrom Association of Maldives the honored privilege of organizing and hosting the 4th Carrom World Cup to in the Maldives.

The event was officiated by Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed. Minister of Sports Mohamed Maleeh Jamal, media partner of the event VMedia’s officials, main sponsor STO’s managing director Adam Azim also participated in the event.

Although the event was officially launched last night, the carom matches commenced yesterday morning.

Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel expressed his gratitude to the World Carrom Association for giving this great opportunity to Maldives.

Ahmed Mubeen from Carrom Association of Maldives stated that the event is kick started successfully because of the cooperation and coordination from the main sponsor STO, the media partner Vmedia and the management of the Sun Island Resort.
