Land reclaimed for Hulhumale’ Phase 2 has been handed over to Housing Development Corporation (HDC), with the company reporting that the plots of land will go on sale next year.
At a function held yesterday at the Ministry of Housing, Managing Director of HDC Mohamed Saiman said that the beach front plots will be sold first. He added that the new housing units will be created close to the phase one housing units.
Saiman further said that the development of Hulhumale’ as a Youth City was a key pledge of President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom and as such, the company was playing a vital role in implementing many of the related projects under the pledge.
“Coastal protection is a vital project. This work is being carried out at the same time as that of the yatch marinas. The “Island” specially built for cruisers, will begin in two or three months,” Saiman said.
Saiman said that Phase 2 of Hulhumale’ Development is proceeding at a fast pace on schedule. He added that development of Hulhumale’ had been assigned to another party and the financial backing for the project is almost finalized.
Saiman noted that discussions were underway with Economic Council on business development projects, such as IT parks.
“We are focusing on projects that will create jobs for youth,” said Saiman.
