Home Minister Umar Naseer has said that Islam and the nation’s independence will be protected, in spite of all the challenges facing the nation.
He made the statement speaking in the ceremony held to welcome the replica of the vessel “Kalhu oh’fummi” in the capital, Male’.
“Maldives is a 100 percent Muslim nation and will remain that way, in spite of the challenges posed by individuals or nations,” Umar said.
Minister Umar’s statement came at a time when a UK backed resolution had been submitted and passed in the EU. Additional measures have been threatened.
EU had previously put up sanctions against Maldives, citing lack of religious freedom and same sex marriages.
