Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and Adhaalath Party (AP) has been fined by MVR 75,000 each, in connection to the mass protest carried out on the 27th of November.
Elections Commission (EC) stated that the Commission had passed to fine the two parties for the inclusion of minors and the use of UN logo in the protest.
MDP has stated that the Party did not include minors in the protest and that the Party cannot be held responsible for the actions carried out by individuals.
The guidelines on protests say that protest organizers should be responsible for all the events that take place during the protest.
The UN Office had raised concerns on the use of their logo in the protest to the ACC and had issued tweets that the logo cannot be used in such a manner.
EC had said that if the parties did not pay the amount, then the amount will be deducted from the funds released to the parties from the state budget.
