Atheism cases are submitted: President
President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom has stated that even though Maldives is a 100 percent Muslim nation, he had received several reports of atheists in the country.

He made the statement speaking in the ceremony held in HA. Utheemu to mark the National Day on Sunday, while speaking on the challenges the nation faced currently.

President Yameen said that the bible could not have been translated to Dhivehi without the assistance of some.

“This is not an easy topic to address. It’s deeply shameful. But today is a day, we reveal, reflect on the truth. National Day is a day that shows the history of the nation. If we are to learn lessons from the past to move ahead,” he said.

President also noted the rallies, held three or four years back, calling for freedom for homosexuality.

“They saw it as their freedoms. There are many who espouse religious freedom, freedom for no religion,” he said.

President Yameen said that he was kept fully informed all of these aspects. He added that in the same way we taught the youth on the history of the nation, they needed to be aware of the current situation. The President added that the youth needed to question the circumstances in which such changes occur.

It is anticipated that his speech is in relation to the 2011 protests, which was halted by some citizens. Even though the protest was held illegally, no actions were taken by the Government.
