Government has begun to distribute financial aid for families in the hardest hit areas in Addu City, which has been besieged by extensive flooding.
The funds are being distributed by the representatives of Disaster Management Centre and Finance Ministry, currently in the city.
Government sources reported that the finances are released to the families after an assessment is carried out on the extent of damages.
If the extent of damages is above MVR 20,000, then the Government will provide 75 percent of the damages. If the MVR 20,000, the Government will reimburse 50 percent of the damages. Over 300 houses in the City have been damaged by the floods, with half of the homes are with extensive damages.
