President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom has ssaid that if countries are allowed to interfere with internal matters of other countries, the world will never see peace or justice.
He made the statement addressing a special function held at Hotel Jen, to celebrate the two year achievements of the government’s foreign policies and fifty years of membership at the UN.
In his address, President Yameen stated that all nations had to respect the rights of individual nations in order maintain humanity.
The President voiced that the key to resolving domestic national issues was not through sanctions or punitive actions. Within this context, President Yameen stated that the majority of the Maldivian people shared the view that everyone is equal before the law, and therefore, no individual may be exempted from being legally prosecuted for their wrongdoings.
President noted that the country’s foreign policy is premised upon strengthening relations between Maldives and its neighbors, while maintaining close bilateral ties with all UN member states. He called for fairness and more factual understanding in relation to the domestic situation in the Maldives.
