SAARC begins workshop on Energy Based Livelihoods
SAARC Workshop on the topic “Energy Based Livelihoods Contributing to Economic Empowerment of the Marginalized Sectors and Women in the SAARC Region” began today.

This workshop is organized by SAARC Energy Centre in collaboration with Ministry of Environment and Energy. All SAARC nations, except for Afghanistan is taking part in the two day workshop held in Mookai Hotel.

Speaking to Miadhu, State Minister for Environment Ministry Abdul Matheen Mohamed said that the main purpose of the workshop is to facilitate energy sources for women for various purposes, such as business development.

Matheen noted that local female farmers have reported issues in electricity for their farms.

Speaking in the ceremony, High Commissioner of Pakistan to the Maldives, Muhammad Saeed Khan said that women carried out extraordinary work in securing energy sources. This, he said was more prominent in poorer areas, with the strain of such a work clearly depicted on the women.

The workshop was initiated by SAARC Energy Center’s Director Naeem Malik.
