Secretary General of the Jumhooree Party, Ahmed Sameer has said that the Elections Commission’s claim that there are issues in the Jumhooree Party membership forms of members who have been with the party for many years
Sa,eer said that these issues raised by the Elections Commission after keeping this forms for nearly an year is a deliberate attempt by Director General of the commission, Shuaib Yusuf.
Sameer said that Maumoon Abdusamad was the Jumhooree Party’s registrar when the forms were submitted however he is now a member of the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and holds a top post in the government.
He said that the party requested to return the forms for review and rechecking however the commission never gave a reply. He said that it is unfair for the commission now is fining the party for this.
Sameer said that now it is impossible to know where the issues are in the forms. “It has been nearly an year with the forms submitted at the commission. They have not returned the forms for further review and inspection,” he said.
He said that the party gets the cooperation from the three members of the commission however the problems arise from the administrative side. He said that especially Director General Shuaib Yusuf is the reason behind this problem.
