Leader of the Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP), former member Mohamed Nasheed “Colonel” has said that the debt of the party has now been reduced to MVR 4.7 million from a debt of MVR 11.3 million.
Speaking to Miadhu Daily, DRP Leader Nasheed said that the party was in a large debt when he first joined the party. He said that a large part of the debt has now been settled.
He said that when he was incepted as the leader, the documents showed a debt of MVR 10.5 million. He said that he held a meeting with the leader of the Jumhooree Party, Gasim Ibrahim to seek his counsel. He said that he has acted upon the guidance of Gasim Ibrahim and so far it has been very successful.
He said that first MVR 6.6 million was settled and they were debts for private companies and people. He said that this was followed by settling the debts for the state.
Colonel said that all of the debts will be cleared and the party has submitted cases in the court regarding doubtful issues with regards to the debts.
