Maldives Police Service (MPS) has reported that a 27 year old male from Sri Lankan has been arrested in connection to the investigation on the assassination attempt on the President.
Police said that the suspect was arrested on the 24th of October and the current investigation has shown that the suspect was paid by a local party to assassinate the President.
Police also said that Criminal Court had issued a 15 day remand period for the suspect, in which Home Ministry can detain him at a suitable location for the duration of the investigation.
It has been reported that the suspected that the individual had worked in the Sri Lankan Army and had knowledge of dangerous weapons and explosives.
