46 Million Budget Approved for Audit Office for 2016

The Parliament has passed a budget of 46 Million rufiyaa for the Auditor General’s Office for 2016 – the same budget approved for 2015.

The budget was passed with 48 MP’s support, while 16 MPs voted against it.

For the current year (2015), the Audit office requested a budget of 93 Million rufiyaa, while for 2016, a budget of 59 Million was requested. Yet the parliament approved 46 Million rufiyaa for both years.
According to the Audit office budget, an amount of 36 Million is expected to be spent on staff salary and allowances while the remaining 12 Million is expected for administrative expenses.

Upon questioning by the Parliament’s Finance Sub-committee, the current Auditor General Hassan Ziyath informed them that in order to cut down on the budget, he had planned to outsource some of their work.
