Vice president Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor was arrested and taken to dhoonidhoo on Saturday when he arrived from Singapore to Maldives.
The moment he descended from the flight he was immediately taken away in a van.
Home Minister Ahmed Umar, Foreign Minister and Maldives Police service then confirmed his arrest which was made under a court order.
Chief Superintendent of command and head of crime investigations department Hamdhoon Rasheed who is in charge of the investigations of the blast in the presidential launch in September 28t, was present at the airport when Adeeb was arrested.
Several threats were made by Adeeb’s supporters to wreak havoc in the city if he was arrested but the city remains peaceful.
The police have arrested 17 people who attempted to disturb the peace of the city along with two under aged kids.
People who had previously heavily criticized Adeeb were seen defending and condemning his arrest on the streets today.
The Vice presidents arrest has now caught the attention of the international Media.
