Jumhooree Party Leader Qasim Ibrahim has stated that the incident aboard the Presidential speedboat was an affront to the nation and was invaluable to the nation.
He made the statement speaking in VTV’s Fasmanzaru program. Qasim said that every single citizen is deserving of protection and security and this was even more vital for the President of the nation. He said that the protection of the President was an issue of national security.
He added that this issue was damaging to the whole nation and that all citizens have to unite to save the nation from the current situation.
Qasim said that he was cooperating with the Government in the efforts to ensure that such incidents did not occur in the future. He also said that this was a national responsibility for all.
Qasim added that a culture of assassination attempts in power bids, will always keep recurring if allowed to occur. He noted that president Yameen was working to ensure that did not happen now or in the future. He stressed that leadership can only be gained from within the legal and Islamic limits.
Qasim said that conduct, ethics and justice were key for the stability of the nation. He added that incident was a grave injustice and nothing good can come such an act.
He also added that he did not believe a change can be brought to the leadership from within the Parliament. Qasim said that those attempting to create such a change cannot gain the required votes for such a move.
