The spokesperson of the President’s Office, Ibrahim Muaz has said that the members of the Board of Investments, as provisioned by the Special Economic Zone Act will not get a salary or allowances from the state for the position.
Muaz made this remark in response to the claim of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) that a minister cannot be appointed for the Board of Investments.
He said that the President has decided not to allocate any allowance or salary for the membership of the Board of Investments.
He said that the President assures that there will be nothing that will contradict the constitution and law.
Furthermore, Muaz said that this board will not be like the boards of companies and will not be a board which generates any income on its own.
The Committee will oversee important issues relating to the Special Economic Zones, including the granting and nullification of authority to establish these Zones.
President Yameen appointed the Minister of Tourism Hon. Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor as Chairman, and Minister of Economic Development Hon. Mohamed Saeed as Vice Chairman of the committee. Other members appointed to the committee are:- Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Hon. Dr. Mohamed Shainee ; Minister of Environment and Energy Hon. Thoriq Ibrahim and Minister of Youth and Sports Hon. Mohamed Maleeh Jamaal.
