A National Enquiry Commission has been established to investigate the explosion aboard the official Presidential speedboat “Finifenmaa”.
Speaking in a hastily convened press conference in President’s office early this morning, President’s Office Spokesperson Ibrahim Muaz Ali said that the National Enquiry Commission had been complied to investigate the incident which occurred on 28th September. He added that details of the investigation will be made public as the investigation proceeded.
He also announced a statement released by the Commission which said that the purpose of the Commission was to find the underlying causes of the incident and prevent reoccurrences of such incidents. The statement also said that the Commission will seek to fulfill their responsibilities.
A recorded video clip of the speedboat as it neared Izzuddin jetty and the subsequent explosion was shared with the media in the press conference. Muaz confirmed that both President and First Lady were in the VIP cabin at the time of the explosion.
It has been reported that Home Minister Umar Naseer will heading the Commission.
