Maldives has called on all parties to the conflict in Syria to immediately cease all hostilities.
The statement was delivered during the Interactive Dialogue with the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria, where Foreign Minister Dunya Maumoon condemned the conflict in the strongest of terms. She added that flagrant violations of human rights and humanitarian law were observed, regardless of their perpetrators and stated that international community should bear responsibility for the innocent lives lost in the Syrian war.
She urged Syrian authorities to grant immediate, and full access to the members of the Commission to carry out their investigation and reiterated the call to refer the situation of Syria to the International Criminal Court. Minister Dunya also called on States receiving Syrian and other refugees to ensure humanitarian assistance, and provide legal venues for their safety.
