Clean water and sanitation, a top priority- Gasim
Gasim Ibrahim, the Leader of the Jumhooree Party has said that providing clean water and sanitation should be the number one priority from the issues faced by the islanders.

Gasim Ibrahim made this remark in the Jumhooree Party’s Parliamentary Group’s meeting with the Finance Minister Abdulla Jihad.

Gasim noted that there are many things to be done for the development of the islands however the top priority should be given to providing them with clean water and a good sanitation system.

The Jumhooree Leader stated that the proximity of groundwater to the surface and the porous nature of the sandy soil of the islands make it highly susceptible to pollution and the spread of diseases.

He said that it is not possible to resolve this issue to all islands within a year because of the shortage in the budget however it can possibly be completed within 4 years by dividing this mega project by 50 islands per year.

Finance Minister Abdulla Jihad in response to Gasim stated that the government gives special importance to the matter and are already making efforts to get financial assistance for the project.

Minister Jihad said that already 50 million dollars have been already allocated by the Opec fund.
