Commissioner of Police, Hussein Waheed has said that the biggest challenge faced by Police in investigating gang related violence and other such cases is the difficulty in getting evidences.
Commissioner of Police this remark, at the ceremony held at Iskandar Koshi yesterday morning to celebrate ten years since the establishment of Maldives Police Service as a separate institution.
“Today it is difficult to get evidence and witnesses. People are hesitant to give testimony,” he said.
Therefore, the Police are resorting to finding forensic evidence and investigating the cases based on such evidence.
The Commissioner stated that Maldives Police Service has always fulfilled their duty and they have been arresting criminals and sending their cases for prosecution to the Prosecutor General with the evidences they find.
He said that Maldives Police Service has no authority in making rulings on cases and the Police do not have any authority to influence the decision of the courts.
However, Commissioner Hussein Waheed assured that Maldives Police Service will provide the security required for the witnesses who testify against perpetrators of crime.
