STO Managing Director Ahmed Shaheer has stated that natural disaster will always occur and countries have to be prepared for it, especially in the area of food security.
He made the statement speaking in the opening ceremony of the 8th board meeting of SAARC Food Bank.
Shaheer said that Maldives had imminent threat from natural disasters and this was applicable to SAARC nations as well. He also said that as the region was interconnected, an incident in one country will impact the other countries in the region. Shaheer cited that resultant effects from the Nepali earthquake
Shaheer noted that if the efforts of the Food Bank can be collated, it would become easier to coordinate relief efforts in case of a crisis. He added that gaining information and sharing information was of utmost importance.
Shaheer added that he hoped that the conference will strengthen the efforts of the Food Bank.
