President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom has stated that the Government was working to ensure that the electricity produced locally have to environmentally friendly.
He made the statement speaking in the ceremony held to open the Fenaka Corporation owned engine house in R. Maduvvari.
President Yameen said that the government had spearheaded such initiatives in densely populated areas such as GDh. Thinadhoo and Addu City. He also said that the production of renewable energy was increasing.
President noted that one fourth of the energy needs at the peak hours in Addu City Hithadhoo were sourced from renewable sources, while half of electricity needs for Thinadhoo were sourced similarly. He said that this should be enacted across all islands without any exceptions.
President Yameen also noted the efforts made by Gasfinolhu in ensuring their electricity was sourced from renewable sources and added that this has been recognized globally as well. He said that Gasfinolhu, which was opened last year, was fully serviced by renewable energy.
