“We will blast the drug erupting volcano within ten years,” says Home Minister Umar Naseer.
Home Minister made this remark, at the ceremony held at Iskandar Koshi yesterday morning to celebrate ten years since the establishment of Maldives Police Service as a separate institution.
The Minister said that gang assaults, stabbing and murders occurring in the Maldives is the result of drugs.
“If this government cannot blast that volcano completely then no other government can,” he said.
Minister Umar said that all gang related crimes committed in Maldives leads back to drugs. He said that 5000 of the 10000 drug addicts are unemployed and they resort to violence to get money.
He said that these people commit crimes such as mugging and other such crimes to get money.
The Minister said that such crimes can only curbed by taking action to prevent gang criminals from returning to the society, through threats and intimidation issued to witnesses and judges during the court process.
