President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has said that the Maamigili Airport operated by the Jumhooree Party leader Gasim Ibrahim’s Villa Air will be upgraded again to Maamigili International Airport.
President Yameen made this remark meeting the local media at the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport prior to the departure of Former President, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom to Samoa to attend the 3rd International Conference on Small Island Developing States.
The President said that the Maamigili Airport was an international airport previously however it had to be downgraded because of there were matters that needed rectification.
He said that the airport was downgraded to a domestic airport following the audit of the Civil Aviation.
President Yameen said that the steps taken following the audit of the Civil Aviation are a good opportunity to correct those issues.
In addition to this the President was asked regarding the revocation of the license of Baresdhoo. He said that the decision was taken following the decision of the cabinet not to extend the license.
