Hanimadhoo constituency MP, Hussein Shahudee has pleaded the government to open and develop tourist resorts in Haa Dhaal Atoll.
MP Shahudee made this remark explaining why he supported the Special Economic Zone Bill and expressing concern regarding the shortage of job opportunities in Haa Dhaal Atoll because of the lack of any tourist resorts in the area.
He said that the lack of a resort in the atoll while Haa Dhaal is one of the most populated atolls is something that the people of Haa Dhaal repeatedly complain about.
“I plead the government to develop and open a resort in the atoll through the Special Economic Zone Bill. Hondaafushi of our atoll has been leased for the past 9 years. Kudamuraidhoo has been leased for the past 8 years. Naagoshi has been leased for the past 8 years,” he said.
Shahudee said that this hope of the people of Haa Dhaal atoll is connected to the hopes of jobs for many of the people.
Shahudee said that he appeals the government to grant the opportunity for the people of Haa Dhaal to taste the sweetness of tourism by opening resorts in the atoll.
