Gasim initiated the works to establish SEZ- Mubeen
Biledhoo constituency MP, Ahmed Mubeen has said that the work to establish the Special Economic Zone Bill to generate more income for the state and to generate job opportunities to the people was initiated by the leader of the Jumhooree Party, Gasim Ibrahim.

Speaking to Miadhu Daily, Mubeen said that although names change with time, this work was commenced by Gasim Ibrahim during his tenure as the Finance Minister of Maldives in the year 2005.

“He even found investors to invest in the two zones to be developed in Addu City and Thiladhumathi. He spent on it from his own money. However, he did not get the opportunity then. And he announced and included it in his manifesto in the year 2008 and also in the year 2013,” he said.

“How can you make such claims that he voted in favour of the bill due to intimidation? He included this in his manifesto. He just did not get the opportunity, that’s all,” he said,

Mubeen said that the Jumhooree Party held a meeting and announced the party’s support for the bill in public when the bill was submitted at the Majlis.

He said that the Jumhooree Party only protested regarding how the committee was continuing its work. He said that the Jumhooree Party cooperated with the committee when the committee corrected its mistake.
