The Bill on Special Economic Zone which was submitted by Ahmed Nihan Hussein Manik, MP for Vilimale’, was passed yesterday with a clear majority.
At the Twenty-Ninth Sitting of the Second Session held today, the Bill on Special Economic Zone was passed with total seven amendments. There were 60 votes in favour and 15 against.
All members of the PPM, MDA and Jumhooree Party voted in favor of the bill. The seven amendments made to the Bill were five amendments made under Article 83 (a) of the Regulations of the Proceedings of the People’s Majlis, and one amendment made under Article 83 (b) and one amendment under Article 83 (c) of the Regulations of the Proceedings of the People’s Majlis.
The First Reading of the government proposed Bill, tabled by Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik, MP for Vilimale, was held on 9 June 2014 at the Second Sitting of the Second Session. A total of 38 MPs spoke on the Bill during its plenary debate stage.
The next Sitting of the People’s Majlis will be held on 28 August 2014 at 1100hrs.
