President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom has stated that the aim of this Government was to ensure that IGMH was a hospital that was renowned regionally, with exceptional service and quality.
He made the statement speaking in the ceremony to open Vilimale’ Hospital as a third tier hospital.
President Yameen added that in the coming years, Male’, Hulhumale’ and Vilimale’ will become centralized population zones and as such the hospitals of the region need to be fully upgraded to the corresponding level. He cited the Tree Top Hospital, presently under construction, as an example of this move.
President Yameen stated that the Government was working to develop hospital buildings and human resource development for the sector.
President Yameen also said that the majority of the population was heavily reliant on foreign health as most of the tests were not available in the country. He added that the Government will soon introduce such tests in the near future.
