Leader of the Jumhooree Party, Gasim Ibrahim has said that the members of the Jumhooree Party voted in favour of the Bill on Special Economic Zone which was submitted by Ahmed Nihan Hussein Manik, MP for Vilimale’, because it will be a bill which will benefit the people.
Gasim Ibrahim said that similar policies were also included in his manifesto. He added that he and the Jumhooree Party has always supported the Special Economic Zone Bill.
Gasim said that he protested and raised concern only regarding the violations of the regulations during the committee phase.
“Following my protests things were rectified and corrected. From that instance I have worked to pass this bill. That is by working with the committee. I noted the Speaker twice and he corrected those issues,” he said.
Gasim said that there are issues that need to be amended however in a democracy system it is very important to go with the majority.
“In committee level and in the floor it will fo as such. Today we have witnessed this truth,” he said.
Gasim said that the Jumhooree Party and other parties also submitted important amendments to the bill. He said that during the vote the Jumhooree Party members voted in favour of the amendments.
