MP Anaaraa calls to serve punishments after conducting proper trials
Makunudhoo Member of Parliament Anaaraa Naeem has called out for proper trials before meting out punishments.

Anaara said that she had requested Human Rights Commission of the Maldives to review the case of currently jailed Adhaalath Party President Sheikh Imran Abdullah.

“He is jailed without proof or a reasonable case. I have been calling to expedite his trial, to jail him only after announcing a guilty verdict, after a proper trial. Being detained in jail with no trial or verdict is a gross injustice,” she said.

Anaaraa said that all independent institutions have to raise their voices on behalf of the public and that the institutions have to be free from political influence. She also said that such institutions were created with the intention of serving the public free from political influence. Anaaraa added that the institutions have to work justly.

She stated that all government and parties had policies they wished to introduce. However, Anaaraa said that the policies cannot be implemented successfully unless there was societal justice and equal treatment to all.

Anaaraa added that she hoped that the Human Rights Commission will adhere to their mandate and work to uphold their mandate.

Her statements came amid the approval vote on the three members of Human Rights Commission.

Prosecutor General had previously called on Criminal Court to expedite Sheikh Imran’s case and had stated that the agency will provide all the required assistance.
