Gerard Mendis, Chairman Chefs Guild of Lanka has stated that Maldivian chefs were competing against world class chefs and winning gold in the Culinary Challenge.
Speaking to Miadhu, Chef Gerard stated that the number of local chefs taking part in the challenge this year and the standard of the competition has also risen.
He highlighted on the importance of preparation for such challenges, on a resort level, atoll and regional level. He also added that in some resorts there are about 40 to 50 chefs.
Gerard noted that the chefs who took part in the challenge were highly talented and winning gold in such competitions was a significant success to local talent.
He also noted that the challenge suffered from the lack of space in Dharubaaruge and highlighted the importance of having a proper convention center. He added that if such a convention center was established then it would benefit the nation.
