Many have expressed dissatisfaction and concern over the attire worn by some dancers in the Top 10 ceremony, held in Dharubaaruge.
Speaking to Miadhu News, a concerned parent stated that the dance itself was not a concern but that the dress code should fall under Islamic norms. Therefore, the parent stated that dressing students in scant clothing for a dance was deeply saddening.
Another concerned parent cited that he did not believe that it was acceptable that the Ministers and senior state officials were endorsing the activity by watching it. The parent also noted that he wasn’t aware that a stocking was used, however, he noted that the material the students had donned was extremely thin and showed the legs.
An additional parent stated that the words and the actions of the Government were at odds against each other. The parent added that if the State claims they espouse Islamic values and Islamic law, then the actions of the Government should tally as well.
One of the parents noted that they were informed of the attire at the last minute and had only gone ahead with the event as they feared that their child will be excluded from other school events.
