Kimbidhoo Constituency Member of Parliament Abdullah Riyaz cited that the new Anti- Terror Bill specifically targeted political figures and accused the Government of attempting to impede the opposition.
He stated that a new relevant Anti-Terror laws were required for the present status of the nation. MP Riyaz also stated that Anti- Terror laws were formed to protect citizens from internal strife and a general atmosphere of terror. He added that it was vital that we have to reflect on the local situation when forming the law.
MP Riyaz said that presently there was an environment of using terror laws to obstruct opposition figures and future politicians from engaging in the political field. He also said that the Bill does not address the issue of the impact of political influence on the judiciary and investigative agencies. MP Riyaz expressed that political figures may become victims of the Bill.
